Careful & Caring Implant Dentists in Woodland Hills
You never want to lose your teeth, of course, but if that is what happened, you will be OK! Our dental implants look, feel, and function just like the teeth you were born with. They’re extremely durable, preserve your jawbone, help you maintain your jaw strength, and are comfortable. They don’t have the problems that often come with dentures or other prosthetics.
You can contact Sweet Life Dental in Woodland Hills and schedule a consultation to discuss dental implants, or you can read on to find out more about implants.
What is involved in getting dental implants?
There are two parts to any dental implant. The first part is the implant itself, which is a titanium “tooth root” that can last for a lifetime. This human-made root gets fixed into your gum and your jawbone. For three months they bond to your jawbone in a process called ossification.
Once the titanium post is fully integrated, we place a crown onto the post; that’s the second part of a dental implant. The crown needs to be replaced every 15 years or so – though that’s an easy procedure. They are custom-made for you and are fully bonded to your teeth and gums.
Do dental implants hurt?
During the procedure you’ll benefit from anesthesia. After the anesthesia wears off, you may feel some pain and soreness for a few days. For the most part, you can manage this pain with over-the-counter medications.
By the time you receive your crown, you definitely won’t feel any pain or discomfort. The titanium rod will function as a true tooth root, right down to preserving jaw bone structure by keeping it strong.
Are dental implants worth the trouble?
If what our patients say is any indication: absolutely.
Implants look just like real teeth. That isn’t true of bridges and dentures, which can sometimes slip around or make it difficult to talk or eat. They have their benefits, of course (the main one being cost and speed), but aren’t a long-term solution in the way implants are. Implants also allow you to chew any food you want to chew, which is also not true of dentures or bridges.
When you get an implant your teeth get a second chance. You don’t have to worry about the shape of your face changing, which can happen if you get dentures and then your jaw bones start to deteriorate. With the help of dental implants, your smile remains attractive and your bite remains functional.
